A franchise owner of Kentucky Fried Chicken in Nebraska did two years of slogan buttons for Nebraska home games in 1979 and 1980. The owner found himself in an extra crispy situation when his Iowa-based locations gave out anti-Iowa State buttons, resulting in a local boycott.
The Penn State program had a similar issue, but it did not boil over. Mellon Bank obtained Central Counties Bank and continued the GameDay buttons program, but refused to put its logo on anti-Pitt buttons, where Mellon Bank had branches.
There were also school-issued buttons issued for at least the 2003 season home games.
